  9. The following xBase function has been added to 1.29:
  10.    TRIM(Char_Value) trims spaces on the right of the char expr
  11.  
  12. Help file has been updated and recompiled.

  14. Shareware
  15. ---------
  16. DataWorks is SHAREWARE. After a thirty day evaluation period, if you
  17. continue to use DataWorks, you are required to register the product
  18. and include a license fee of $49.95 U.S. by check, money order, Visa
  19. or Mastercard. A registration form may be found at the end of this
  20. document.
  21.  
  22. DataWorks is designed as an xBase power user's tool to be used by
  23. developers building applications with VXBASE for Visual Basic.
  24. VXBASE may be found on the bulletin board that carries DataWorks.
  25. It is uploaded as two files. The latest release is composed of
  26. files vxbdoc.zip (documentation) and vxbase.zip (vxbase.dll).

  28. DataWorks documentation is contained entirely in an extensive
  29. Windows Help file accessible from the main DataWorks menu.

  32. Installation
  33. ------------
  34.    (1) Unzip dworks.zip with pkunzip
  35.            PKUNZIP DWORKS
  36.  
  37.    (2) Three more zip files appear
  38.  
  39.            DWMASTER.ZIP  an empty DataWorks data dictionary set
  40.                          to be loaded and unzipped into any
  41.                          directory that contains or will contain
  42.                          xBase files. Retain this file to set up
  43.                          new xBase locations that are accessible
  44.                          through DataWorks.
  45.  
  46.            VXBTEST.ZIP   If you currently have vxBase, move this
  47.                          file to \VB\VXBTEST and unzip it. It 
  48.                          contains DataWorks dictionary definitions
  49.                          for the sample database that comes with
  50.                          VXBASE.
  51.  
  52.            DWINDOWS.ZIP  contains dwx.exe, dwxdll.dll, dw.ini,
  53.                          and dwhelp.hlp. Move this file to your
  54.                          \WINDOWS directory and unzip. These are
  55.                          the actual program and supplementary files.

  58.    (2) New Users
  59.        ---------
  60.        copy DWMASTER to any directory on your hard drive that
  61.        contains Clipper databases (or to a new directory 
  62.        if you want to create new databases).
  63.  
  64.        Every directory that you wish to access with DataWorks
  65.        MUST HAVE ITS OWN COPY of the master dictionary files.

  67.        vxBase Users
  68.        ------------
  69.        If you wish to experiment with DataWorks, and have a copy
  70.        of vxBase, move the VXBTEST.ZIP file to \VB\VXBTEST and
  71.        unzip (don't copy DWMASTER there).

  74.        Existing Users NOTE:
  75.        --------------------
  76.        If you are upgrading an existing copy of DataWorks,
  77.        DO NOT UNZIP DWMASTER over top of your current dictionary
  78.        files. You will lose all current dictionary information.

  81. Running DataWorks
  82. -----------------

  84.    (1) Bring up Windows and add DWX.EXE to a program group 
  85.        (or run it with the RUN command). The password is
  86.        MASTER. Enter a startup directory where you have 
  87.        placed a copy of the DataWorks dictionary files (i.e.,
  88.        unzipped DWMASTER). If you are running the sample
  89.        vxBase data set, enter \vb\vxbtest as the directory.
  90.  
  91.        You can alter the initial size of the files directory
  92.        screen. When you exit, the size you set will be saved.
  93.  
  94.    (2) If there are existing database files in the directory
  95.        you specified, you can add them to the DataWorks
  96.        dictionary with the File Import Dbf menu command.
